How to Instantly Tap Into Mental States

 Here’s an idea using a hypnosis tool called “anchoring”. When you arrive at extreme states of consciousness you can train yourself to “anchor” that state to a specific action for that state. Some body language is already linked or anchored to emotional states such as the  “victory pose” and that is demonstrated here

A hypnotist might actually access the emotional centers of your brain and have you imagining the experience of a time when you felt an emotion, they will have you anchor it to an action such as pushing your thumb and forefinger together. A hypnotist will actually give you a posthypnotic suggestion to do this and to return this state when you do, but even without the hypnosis your body language still activates the “neural net” associated with the emotion


With the link in your brain between physical body’s action and emotion it still will work to activate the mental state, although hypnosis might make the experience and the link more powerful.

So I suggest trying this anytime you feel unusually:

Calm/poised,

Confidence,

Energetic/excited,

Focused,

Relaxed,

When you do, use a particular action of your body and repeat a few times to reinforce the link between the action and this state.

Beware though... if you have an action to create more confidence and you only begin to use that “anchor” when you are less confident, eventually you will anchor that action to being less confident if you aren’t careful. So you might want to spend a bit more time in a confident state using that anchor and try to bring yourself into that state as much as you can before activating the “anchor”.


Suggestions of anchors to use if you need it:

“Prayer” (fingers and palms together in front associated with calm)

“Fist pump” confidence and energy

“Victory pose” winning formation for winning feelings, confidence.

“Running in place and jumping up and down” excitement/energy 

“Psychic pose” (fingers on temples) intense focus


Relaxed state—roll your eyes back as if to look at your forehead, breathe in for 2, hood for 4 and exhale for 8. Repeat 3 times. Then put hands together like “prayer” only against your cheek whether you are standing (mild relaxation to ease nerves), sitting (deeper meditative state) or laying down. Or if you meditate you might use the “meditation position” of sitting down legs crossed without moving for 20 minutes and whenever you want to relax and bring up that state you can go back to that position later usually without requiring 20minutes to get into it.
